Abrams’ "Lost" it had almost a completely different cast
Synopsis
Survivors of a plane crash are forced to work together to survive on a seemingly deserted tropical island.. J.J. See which celebrities missed one of the most popular TV shows of all time. Sawyer’s character was originally intended to be an older, dapper, suit-wearing town artist from Buffalo, NY. However, when Josh Holloway forgot a line at the audition and subsequently kicked a chair in frustration and cursed loudly, the writers liked the edge it brought to the Sawyer character and decided to -writes Sawyer as a darker southern drifter.. Jin and Sun are married and share the last name “Kwon”, which becomes a major plot point in the final season. However, when Koreans marry, the wife never takes her husband’s last name.

Weird opening credits were designed by J.J. Abrams on his black and white laptop as an homage to The Twilight Zone.. With so many high-quality shows ending or recently canceled (Friends, Frasier, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel) and many others declining in quality (The West Wing, Smallville), not to mention the rise blatantly turgid. and tasteless “reality”; programming, I have almost given up television as an entertainment medium. I was seriously considering giving up my TV and cable subscription in favor of my computer screen and broadband internet connection.
Then comes “Lost”
I missed the first few episodes but managed to catch up thanks to BitTorrent. Now I’m hooked. There’s a lot to like about this show, but here’s a quick list: 1) Outstanding, intelligent, layered writing. There are more mysteries here, and for every answer we get, more questions arise. 2) Rich and complex characters. Just when you think you have a character down, you learn something new about them that is often surprising or even shocking. I enjoy watching the different relationships emerge and develop.

3) Strong performance. This is an outstanding cast of mostly journeyman actors with a few newcomers, and they all turn in stellar work. Even some of the cameos featured well-known and talented actors (eg Mira Furlan, Victoria Hamel). Of the four main story elements you learned in school, plot, character, theme, and setting, the latter is often the poor and neglected cousin. Not here. The island is dangerous, beautiful, creepy and undeniably intriguing. It’s like a character in itself.
This is not just a desert island soap opera
Part of the fun of this show will be revealing the island’s secrets.5) Thematic depth. There are rich metaphors and themes to be mined here, such as the challenges of morality; on the nature of communities and civilization; on our relationship with nature/environment; and about spirituality, even mysticism, too. I am grateful to see that this show is a success. Too many times lately, I’ve committed to a quality show from the get-go (“Wonderfalls” being the most recent and much-lamented example) only to have a squirming network cancel it prematurely. I hope “Lost”; will have a long and successful run – if its creators, cast and crew maintain the level of quality they’ve shown so far, I’m sure it will.
